In 2019, Ashoke Panit, a filmmaker, shared a tweet that included a clip taken from Grover's 2012 show. This has been widely distributed online. The filmmaker not only attacked the comedian-screenwriter but also actresses like Shabana Azmi, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker and Nandita Das.

Pandit tweeted: "Silence from @AzmiShabana Ji @RichaChadha #ReallySwara @nanditadas about this misogynistic comment by @varungrover. He literally abuses and molests @Ayeshatakia. It is very sad. "I appeal to all women who respect dignity and respect women to shame this so-called comedian.

Varun Grover can be seen laughing at Amitabh and saying, "He's like everywhere." Many reacted to Ashoke Panit's tweet about Varun Grover saying, "He is like aisenikal hai, itne-zyadanikal rahehai jaise Ayesha Takia ke b**bs." Actor Anup Soni wrote, "@varungrover this is a bad one...Really bad one...This is not a comedy."

While the writer-comedian was vehemently lambasted for his eleven-year-old comment on Ayesha, Richa Chadda reacted to Ashoke Pandit's tweet, "Sir, for you and for all those waiting to attack me again, I'd just like to say so much goes on in our country on a daily basis,(crime or otherwise), that for me to outrage at the speed with which you expect, I'd have to leave my day job as an actor and sit on Twitter all day."

Ayesha Takia did not respond to the joke. However, Varun Grover said in a conversation with Hindustan Times that he had accepted the error and regretted it. "I feel that in stand-up comedy, I have made the most mistakes in my usage of words and in speaking. We do have some pointers, but it is spontaneous. There was much abuse and misunderstanding at the beginning. Ayesha Takia found a joke in which I said, and I agreed. I'm still being pointed out for it. Other jokes I made were also wrong, but I have learned from my mistakes. I used to be able to use abuses freely, but I no longer do that. Even if I do, they are still gender neutral and justifiable. It (abuses), restricts the audience of family members. It doesn't matter what your views are. They can be very different for each person."
