This was when Tanuja, Dharmendra and Chand Aur Suraj were filming in 1965. The actor was already married to Prakash Kaur, his first wife at the time. The veteran actress spoke out in a 2014 interview to Filmfare, saying, "We were filming for Dulal Guha’s Chand Aur Suraj. Dharam and me were great drinking friends and we would have great fun. Prakash, my wife, introduced me to Dharam. Sunny (Deol), was only five years old at the time, and his daughter Lali was six months.
Tanuja said that Tanuja tried to flirt with him one day. I was taken aback and slapped him, saying, "Besharam!" I know your wife, and you have the courage to flirt with me. He was embarrassed and pleaded with his wife, Tanu, Meri Maa, Sorry Bolta Hoon (I am sorry). Please make me your brother. I said no, saying that I was content with Jaideep (my brother)'. After much negotiation, I finally took a black thread and tied the knot around his wrist.
In 1973, Shomu Mukherjee, a veteran actress, married Shomu and they had two daughters together: Tanishaa and Kajol. Shomu died in 2008 from a heart attack.
