In her Bollywood career, Alka has sang a great number of female solos. Hum Tum, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla, and many others are among her most memorable works. Her songs have since become cult classics.
In an old interview, Alka Yagnik accused another great singer Anuradha Paudwal of duplicating her songs without her knowledge. According to IBTimes, the singer retaliated against Paudwal in the 1997 issue of Filmfare for dubbing her songs Dil Ki Kalam Se, Ye Ishq Bada Bedardi Hai, and O Ramji from Itihaas.
Alka Yagnik further said, “At times I feel there are no ethics in the industry. She (Anuradha Paudwal) is back to singing for films and those songs will be out in the market soon. So why step all over me and do it surreptitiously when I wasn’t in town?”
The ‘Shairana' singer also told the magazine that producers approached her about dubbing Anuradha's tracks. She, on the other hand, declined and offered that it be re-dubbed by Paudwal herself. According to the report, they attempted to contact Anuradha Paudwal for three days in order to get her side of the tale, but were unsuccessful.
The magazine subsequently contacted Itihaas' producer-director, who revealed that the film's soundtrack rights had previously been controlled by Amitabh Bachchan's ABCL. However, they were unable to advertise it due to the company's financial difficulties. Gulshan Kumar then bought the song rights, promoted it, and had it dubbed by his singers.
Alka Yagnik also reacted to the report by saying, “All I can say is that she has stooped too low. I am flabbergasted.”
