Chennai Express was released to celebrate Eid on August 8th and broke all box office records. It received a lot of positive word-of mouth from viewers. However, Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara, which was released on 15 August, received a negative reception.

Even though the conflict was avoided, Ekta Kapoor, who backed Akshay's starrer, didn't have it any easier. The film was produced on a large budget, with Akshay collecting a significant portion of the money. After the film tanked commercially, Akshay had reportedly offered to return half of his fees to Ekta.

A source close to DNA had quoted, "Akshay, who is currently shooting in Bangkok, called her two days ago and graciously offered to return half of his remuneration to cover up for the losses she incurred over Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobara. Ekta was touched with his offer but declined, saying she didn't want the money back but she wanted to do another film with him."

"She stated that she wanted to give him an OUATIMAD hit, which he was denied for some reason. The actor agreed immediately. The source said that she should call him once she has a script. They would then work together again."

Akshay Kumar is still waiting for the release of Sooryavanshi and Atrangi Re, as well as Bachchan Pandey. Raksha Bandhan and Ram Setu are also on his radar, as well as Prithviraj, Prithviraj, and other biggies.
