When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Jewellery Ad Featuring A Dark-Skinned Malnourished Child Was Labelled

Recently the Alia Bhatt's Manyavar advertisement did not go down well with netizens who denigrated on her choice of a word known as 'Kanyamaan' in her advertisement. It's not the first time that such a thing has been spotted by netizens. In 2015. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan posed for an Kalyan Jewellers' ad featuring the dark-skinned, malnourished child. the ad didn't sit well with activists who described it as offensive and racist.

Children rights groups were outraged and activists came out to attack the Kalyan jewelry advertisement.

The day after the advertisement became viral, activists sent an open letter addressed to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and slammed her for promoting a racist advertisement. Kalyan Jewellers issued an apology on their official Facebook page. They stated, "The creative was intended to show the royalty in timeless beauty and class. If we've accidentally hurt the feelings of any person or organization we are deeply sorry for the same. "We have begun the process of removing this campaign's creative."

The commercial included Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sitting royally on a recliner , adorned with heavy jewelry as well as a malnourished dark skinned child who was holding an umbrella on her head.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has also issued an official statement following the criticism of the ad that reads "The final design of the advertisement is the sole discretion that the design team working on the brand. However, we encourage you to submit your piece as a point of view that could be considered by the team of creative professionals working on the brand's visual communications."
