Stephane Dujarric, Guterres's Spokesperson, said Wednesday that "We send our deep condolences for his family and his legions of supporters throughout the world."
It was a Pakistani journalist that mentioned the actor's passing to Dujarric in his daily briefing, a sign of Dilip's influence beyond India.
The fandom of Dilip Kumar spread beyond South Asia, especially to the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe.
The actor, now 98, was born in preindependence Peshawar, which is now in Pakistan. He starred in more than 60 movies during his 54-year career in movie production.
He was buried in Mumbai on Wednesday. He was laid to repose in Santacruz, Juhu with all state honors.
