Tahir Raj Bhasin Recalls Working With Nawazuddin Siddiqui In Manto As A ‘Live Masterclass’

Nawazuddin plays Saadat Hasan Manto and Tahir Raj Bhasin essays the role of 1940s Bollywood superstar Shyam Chadda.

Tahir Raj Bhasin is reminiscing as his Hindi movie "Manto" has been released in Hindi cinema for three years. It was a real masterclass for him to work with Nawazuddin Sirdiqui, actor of the film.

Nandita Das directed 'Manto,' a biographical drama about Saadat Hasan Manto, an Indo-Pakistani author and writer, which was released in 2018.

Nawazuddin portrays Saadat Hazan Manto, while Tahir Raj Bhasin plays the role of Shyam Chadda, a 1940s Bollywood star.

Tahir Raj Bhasin stated that working with Nawazuddin Sirdique on Manto was an amazing experience. Shyam Chadha (Tahir's 1950 film star) and Manto were real-life heroes who enjoyed epic adventures against the backdrop of Bombay 50's cinema.

"Translating this friendship onto-screen required a variety of scenes, from a brotherly bond through to a dramatic conflict and a sudden separation of the ways. It was an amazing experience to explore all these shades with Nawaz, my co-star. While filming Manto, I was influenced by his timing, humor, and humility.

Tahir Raj Bhasin said that Nandita is a director with exceptional taste, and it shows in the films she makes.

"She gave me a nuanced performance that would not have been possible without her keen eye for detail. The film's journey was incredible. Within a year, we were able to transition from shooting in Gujarati villages to the Red Carpet at Cannes.

He was recalled as having walked the red carpet in Cannes representing his country.

Tahir Raj Bhasin said: "Walking on the red carpet representing India at Cannes and interacting with the international press and festival jury for Manto was surreal. This was made even more special by the fact that it was shared with Nawaz (a film tycoon) and Nandita (a director in Indian cinema), at Cannes.

Tahir explained why he chose Manto after playing a baddie with 'Mardaani and 'Force 2’.

"Manto" was for me the opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with Nawazuddin Sirdique. As in sport, your performance in a pair is only as good or better than your co-star. It was an incredible challenge to work with Nawaz.

Tahir will be seen in "Looop Lapeta" and "Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein", while Sunil Gavaskar will play the role in Kabir Khan’s 83.
