Gavin O’Connor is currently more focused on writing his own original projects.

James Gun's The Suicide Squad, which was released last month, has received a lot of praise. It also earned millions of dollars at the Box Office. David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad was a critical failure, but it still earned 700M+. But the question is, why Warner Bros. didn't announce a sequel? Director Gavin O'Connor now speaks out about why his version never made it to the big screen.

According to reports, Gavin was supposed take over the film from David, but because of an internal dispute with the studios he left the huge project.

Gavin O'Connor spoke to The Playlist about how he wrote a contract to write a script and that they were aware of what I was doing. With those types of movies and that budget, no one is just going off to write a movie without explaining what it was gonna look like. Everyone was happy with that.

"During the last part of writing the script, there was a whole DC regime change, and when that happened they wanted it be a comedy and I was like, 'I am not writing comedy.' It was fun but not a yukfest. The new regime wanted a movie that was different from what I was writing," the filmmaker said.

Gavin O'Connor also denied that he had seen James Gunn's Suicide Squad in the same interview. He said, "I don't have any interest to see it, to be honest...I'm just trying my own thing."

Marvel Studios and its bosses have been far more open to the writer's ideas than their bosses. They don't interfere with the production crew nor change their'regimes' to achieve what they want. Marvel Studios has experimented with a mix of comedy and action in its 22 movies and many TV shows.

DC writers, on the other side, are at odds with Warner Bros., and it is clear that the studio, after Justice League and Batman vs Superman, has ceased producing dark-tone films and wants to follow in the footsteps of Marvel films.

Gavin O'Connor's current focus is on his own projects. Brad Ingelsby, the series creator, is collaborating with O'Connor again. He said that they are currently writing a movie together.
