Writer's picture: koimoikoimoi

Yet another week, yet another film that could have set the box office on fire.

Shershaah Movie Review Rating:3.5/5 stars (Two and a quarter stars)

Star Cast:Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Shiv Pandit, Nikitin Dheer, Sahil Vaid, Anil Charanjeett, Shataf Figar, Raj Arjun

Director:Vishnu Varadhan

What's good:Each department brings something unique to the overall product. This includes acting, cinematography, music and screenplay.

What's bad:It comes with the standard army-movies cliches. The dialogues could have been better...not louder...better

Loo BreakYou won't be able to hit the pause button often because of the pace (many tracks may differ from the original romantic one, but 'rukozara...sabar karo" eventually grows).

Do you want to watch or not? This is:It's a roaring yes!

This story is about Palampur Ka Seedha Saadha Launda' Vikram Btra (Sidharth Melhotra), a son of a teacher who dreams of one day serving his country. He is so obsessed with his army uniform, he wears it at school every day. He is able to grow up and prepare for his dream. Just before he takes the exams, he falls in love (Kiara Advani) with a simple Dimple.

Vikram is on the brink of giving up his 'army dream' to choose Merchant Navy in order to impress his father. Sunny Vaid, his friend, correctly advises him. He is promoted to lieutenant, and earns respect from his fellow team members by taking down the most evil terrorists. He leaves his current regiment to face the Pakistani militants who ambush the LOC in the Kargil War. Vikram Batra's team retakes two key points and gives the country an opportunity to celebrate the 'Vijay Divas (16th December).

Shershaah Movie Review: Script Analysis

The best thing about these subjects is that you can be informative. However, at times the information might become too well-known to be useful in a film. There have been many times that Kargil War has been depicted in Bollywood movies, and this one is the best. Sandeep Srivastava, a Kabir Singh filmmaker, keeps the dialogues to a minimum. Between the controlled border-drama and unfiltered action, the cliched but charming romance is not too distracting.

It's easy to get carried away with the subject. Your characters will shout patriotic dialogues, adding too much drama (read: Bollywood'ising), to the actual events. Srivastava's script is smooth and touches all the Bollywood-movies clichés without being too long. I was hooked by the love story, which started off on a convincing note. The film's climax lifts it a notch, helping to finish on a high note.

You have to deal with the fact that 'people know everything' when you make a movie about a famous name. The tensions created by Srivastava’s script are showcased by Kamaljeet Negi’s stunning camerawork. Negi's magic in how he pans camera is evident in many suspense-revealing shots. The fight between Sidharth Malhotra and Mir Sarwar's Haider character is one example of Negi's superior camerawork. Just watch the scene again for Kamaljeet Nevi. A. Sreekar Prasad, an experienced editor, limits the film's runtime to 135 minutes. 135 minutes

Shershaah Movie Review: Star Performance

It is natural to ask, "Is this Sidharth's best?" This & Ek Villian are still my choices. Ek Villian had more depth. Vikram Batra is a formidable opponent for Sidharth. He not only nails the character's tone, but also shows his quirky personality. You'll be amazed at how well Sidharth portrays him in the same scene as the movie's end credits. Sid's charm allows him to channel the same heroic magnetism Vikram Btra experienced. Sidharth Malhotra would be proud today of him, just as we are.

Kiara Advani beautifully fits in as the protagonist's love interest. Her charm and sweetness gives the character an appealing touch. Even though the screen time is limited, we are never able to forget the significance of Dimple in Vikram’s life. Although Shiv Pandeit's portrayal of Jimmy is good, it is a wasted moment. Jimmy's character needs more depth and connection with Vikram Btra to make an impact.

When the film began, I was thrilled for Sahil Vaid. But no. His role is very limited and he's brilliant, but "yeh di maange more!" Raj Arjun, Shataf Figar, Anil Charanjeett and Shataf Figar stand out among the rest.

Shershaah Movie Review: Direction, Music

Vishnu Varadhan has made his first foray into Bollywood. It is a well-presented war drama. Vishnu does not follow a linear path to explain the events. He starts at the end. Vishnu is careful not to touch the pitfalls of pop nationalism and jingoism. He keeps it straight to the point. Vishnu's inability to find good dialogues is a hindrance to his smooth direction.

John Stewart Eduri's background music is strong and rhythmic, but it is hampered by the absence one good theme. Fans of B Praak would be surprised to see the finale. Bro-tip: Keep your tissues handy.

Shershaah Movie Review - The Last Word

People will ask Sidharth Malhotra after seeing this film, "Yeh Dail maange more!". But, this reminds me of another Pepsi slogan: "Mera number, kab aayega?". This is a Sidharth show. Another week, another film that could have lit up the box office.Three and a quarter stars
