Sanya Malhotra is the star of the Netflix black comedy "Pagglait" and she's ready to make a splash with a new World Elephant Day campaign (August 12th) in collaboration with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA).

Taras Taraporvala is the photographer of record. The ad shows Malhotra in a horrifying 'cut' that appears to have been caused by an 'ankus (a sharp-edged device used for controlling elephants). She asks her fans to try to relate to the elephant's fate and not ride an elephant. Natasha Mathias did her hair and makeup.
"I do it because it brings me joy to act or dance on-screen. Sanya Malhotra stated that the elephants being used for performances and joy rides don't have any choice but to be beaten and often never see their families again.
Baby elephants often become separated from their mothers at two years of age. They are either tied between trees with heavy chains or ropes, causing painful burns, or kept in a small wooden enclosure called a "kraal".
Trainers beat the young elephants with sticks to break their spirits and force them into obedience.
Malhotra is a regular in Hindi films. She has appeared in recent movies like 'Shakuntala Devi" and 'Ludo". She will be seen in the romantic comedy Meenakshi Sundareshwar and together with Vikrant Masey and Bobby Deol, in "Love Hostel".
