Director Rensil D'Silva shared the origins of the thriller drama, as the Manoj Bajpayee starrer "Dial 100" is getting ready for release.

Rensil, the director of the series, spoke to IANS about the inspiration and the series. He stated, "About twenty years ago, at midnight, I received a call from a friend who was very talented, but unemployed." He was drunk, and he started to vent. He told me that he didn't care about life anymore and wanted to die.

The 'Dial 100' director added, "He started burning the pages of his poetry diary and told me that as soon as he reaches the last poetry, he would jump off the roof. I had never met him so I tried to calm him down by telling him to come meet me and not give up.

"But I know that after some point, 'Don’t give up' is just an expression because it comes after a lot struggle with being rejected, unloved, unloved, and ill-treated in society. Rensil D’Silva said that even though I went on with my life and began making films, the phone call and its aftermath, which was so psychological, remained in my mind.

Siddharth P. Melhotra was eventually able to share the idea of making an animated film about how one phone call can transform a person's life. Rensil was able to confront a real situation after both agreed to work on it during the lockdown.

"During the first lockdown suicide rates were high in my city. I guess everywhere we know this reality. I met the Mumbai Police Commissioner, who was encouraging and supportive that I want to make a film on real events. Rensil D’Silva stated that the Mumbai Police Department receives many calls on the number "Dial 100" where people call before they commit suicide or face domestic violence.

He met the people working in the dial 100 cell and retold the story about one character and how one call changed the lives of people.

"It really hit me when I heard the actual phone calls. I returned home, and I was able to complete the story within one week. We finished filming in 16 days. Everyone was very quick to join the fray. This was December 2020, and the film is out in August. Rensil said, "I couldn't have done it faster!"

Produced by Sony Pictures Films India 'Dial 100', features Manoj Bajpayee, Neena Gupta, Sakshi Tanwar and releases on ZEE5 on August 6.
