Quentin Tarantino spoke to The Moment with Brian Koppelman about the time his mother reprimanded him for his poor academic performance. He shared with us the story of his mother, who encouraged him to write from a young age.

"And then, during her tirade, she said: "Oh, and by he way, this little writing profession?" -- with finger quotes -- "This little writing career that your doing? Quentin Tarantino stated, "That (expletive), is (expletive), over."


Now, the filmmaker clarified that his mom didn't want him to start writing in school. He was supposed to be doing another thing, she said. He didn't forget that comment and made sure to never forget it.


"And when she said it to me in that sarcastic manner, I was in my mind, and I go, "Okay, lady. When I become a successful author, you will not see one penny from mine success. There won't be a house for you. You won't find a vacation. Mommy, there's no Elvis Cadillac. Quentin Tarantino stated, "You get nothing because that's what you said."


The filmmaker continued to stress the importance of parents understanding that their words can have an effect on their children. He said, "There are consequences to your words as you interact with your children." Remember: Your sarcastic tone regarding what is meaningful to your children will have consequences.
