In an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle stated she felt alone combating social media speculation and "falsehoods perpetuated" by "the firm," her term for the British royal household since her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. Meghan also accused that the Royal household of becoming chilly and Racist, especially involving their son Archie, at the much-anticipated interview, which aired on CBS on Sunday at 8 p.m.
Fear for their own child, for whom the Royal household had small protection and the increasing evaluation had a negative effect on Meghan Markle's psychological well-being and she said she had suicidal ideas while being pregnant.
“I was ashamed to say it at the time I just didn’t want to be alive any more. And that was a very real and clear, and frightening and constant thought,” Meghan Markle said in the two-hour pre-recorded interview, adding that the Palace refused to shield her.
“My regret is believing them when they said I would be protected,” Meghan said tearfully at the end of her interview with Prince Harry.
Meghan went to great detail concerning the situation of Archie's skin colour.
“In those months when I was pregnant, we have in tandem the conversation of, ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title’, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she said, adding that while the couple didn't reject the official photo of Archie when he was born, Markle was concerned for his safety.
“There was a lot of fear surrounding it. I was very scared of having to offer up our baby, knowing they weren’t going to be kept safe,” she said, adding that the information was relayed to her by Harry, who later refused to share the nature of the conversation or with whom he had it because he felt it would be "very damaging to them."
Meghan recalled, “I went to human resources and asked for help and the person told me this. ‘My heart goes out to you because we see how bad it is. But we can’t help you because you’re not a paid employee of the institution’.”
Later in the meeting, Harry shared powerless and humiliated he felt at the moment and the way he later realised he'd been "trapped" and the "rest of his family" altogether.
But he's unsure about his relationship with his Father, Prince Charles, and believes he's been "let down" by him as Harry considers the family ought to have been around for them.
