Karan Johar Reveals How 6 Stars Were Cast For Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham In A Day

KJo recently shared an interesting story about his blockbuster family drama while gracing Indian Idol 12 as a special guest.

Karan Johar, speaking on Indian Idol 12, revealed that he approached Amitabh Bachchan immediately after he had finished the story. Big B, a respected senior in the industry was the first to be on KJo’s list. Big B instantly liked the story and role of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Jaya Bachchan was the second person to sign onboard. After signing Amitabh Bachchan, Karan Johar left Big B's house. He was on his way when he got the idea to rope Jaya in as Big B's wife. He called Jaya immediately. Jaya was initially shocked that KJo didn’t mention any role when he met Big B. KJo then explained how his name came about after he left their home.

After casting two big guns Shah Rukh Khan was next. Karan Johar, Indian Idol 12, referred to him as a brother because there's a reason for it. He was the only person who heard the story, and he immediately agreed to make the film.

KJo had to cast Kajol as she wasn't working very hard back then. As she was newly married, she was very busy with her personal life and Ajay Devgn. She was adamant about working less. KJo was insistent about casting her. The filmmaker spoke on the show and revealed that they have always had an emotional connection, sharing laughter as well as tears. KJo's story was full of emotions, which attracted the Dilwale actress. She agreed to participate in it.

Hrithik Roshan was next and he immediately accepted to do Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. KJo managed to lock five stars and then contacted Kareena Khan. She liked Poo's character, and that was how one of the most important casting decisions happened.

KJo also shared more stories about Indian Idol 12 in his weekend appearance. The final episode will be telecasted on the 15th and will run for 12 hours. It will air on Sony Entertainment Television from 12 am to 12 AM of the 16th August.
