"More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times," Gyllenhaal told Vanity Fair magazine, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
Jake Gyllenhaal said: "I believe, because Elvis Costello's wonderful, that good manners are better than bad breath. So that's what I do. However, I believe that not bathing is a great way to maintain your skin. We naturally clean our bodies.
After actors Mila Kunis (and Ashton Kutcher) started a debate on cleanliness, Jake Gyllenhaal made the remarks.
The conversation began on Monica Padman's podcast, 'Armchair Expert'.
Kunis stated that she didn't have hot water in her home growing up so she never had a shower.
"I didn’t have hot water as a child so I didn’t shower often anyway. However, when I had children, I didn't wash my children every day. I didn't bathe my newborns every day.
Kutcher added, "Now, here's a thing: Clean them if you can see dirt on them." It's pointless otherwise.
Later, Shepard brought up the subject with Kristen Bell, his wife and actress Kristen Bell. The couple shared that they don't bathe the children daily. Jake Gyllenhaal is now adding to the discussion. Are you in agreement? Comment below to let us know your thoughts.
