Hema Malini, a 2015 Filmfare interviewee, revealed that she was once trolled by producers' women for her dress. She stated, "My mother forced me to wear heavy Kanjivaram Saris." She refused to let me protest, but I did. My rich blouses and sarees were ridiculed by the wives of the producers, who were mostly Punjabi women. "Woh Dekho, Madrasan Aagayi" (See there, Madrasan's here) they would say.
Hema Malini wore heavy Kanjivaram sarees a lot more often, if you don't already know. Her fashion choices are a result of her mother. Hema used, back then to be upset at her mother for forcing her to wear traditional clothes. She's proud of her now!
"My mother played a major role in shaping me. She made me who I am today. I was coaxed by her to study and pursue classical dance. She said that I would not have been able to achieve any of these things if I hadn't been a dancer.
Meanwhile, in June, the veteran actress remembered her mother, Jaya Chakravarthy, on her death anniversary.
"My mother, Smt Jaya Chkravarthy, affectionately known as Mummy by all those who knew her, was an icon figure in Mumbai and respected by everyone. 17 years ago, she left us. She was everything to me.
