Game Of Thrones Trivia #9: Jason Momoa’s Auditioning Tape Included Him Performing ‘Haka’ Dance

After appearing in the an action drama that was syndicated Baywatch: Hawaii, and Conan the Barbarian, the actor was seeking an exciting break that would bring him recognition in the world of entertainment. The American fantasy drama landed his way, and he was invited to audition for the part of Khal Drogo.



Jason Momoa came in and Jason Momoa performed Jason Momoa came in and danced the Haka the Haka, a dance with its roots within the Maori culture. The same dance that Dwayne Johnson used in a scene from the Fate of the Furious to aid in the development of the soccer squad of his child's. Watch this video:


The team behind the production of Game Of Thrones was so impressed with his performance during the audition that they offered him his role as Khal Drogo in the show. Jason even shared his process of thinking when he auditioned in an interview with the New York Times.



Jason Momoa said, "On Game of Thrones, [Drogodoes not say much. How do you communicate his character? There's no script. Therefore, I told myself: "I am thinking of this. Is it O.K. to dance prior to the audition? They replied"Oh yes, absolutely. Then I performed the Haka. It was difficult to perform the audition following the performance because I couldn't keep my heart from racing. When I first tried this, the audience was extremely terrified. Then they asked me to return to put the tape."



Jason was convincing in the role and was fluent in the Dothraki dialect so well as Drogo that some did not even know the actor was American. Jason told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, "People didn't think I spoke English."
