There are lots of 'not-so-good' tales of SRK!
Shah Rukh Khan may have been dragged into the spotlight by Aryan Khan's problems with the Narcotics Control Bureau, (NCB), but he is not a stranger to controversy.
His story dates back to 1992, when he was just another star-making face in Mumbai. Shah Rukh Khan got into a fight with a journalist from the film industry and was arrested for causing disorder at the office of the magazine he was fighting. Keep reading for the Latest Bollywood News.
Anupama Chopra's book on Shah Rukh Khan reported an incident in which the young actor was unhappy that the journalist had written about a private scene between Deepa Sahi (the actress) and Ketan Mehta (the acclaimed film "Maya Membsaab". Sahi is Mehta's spouse.
"I'm going to take off your clothes, and make you stand with me. "Would you find that funny?" SRK said to Letterman. He then went on to make a scene which led to his arrest. Shah Rukh, seeing the conditions inside Bandra's police station, made peace with the journalist as well as the cops.
SRK made the Samajwadi Party clamor for his blood in the years that followed. He said (jokingly, he later stated) at a public function that he could see 'darindagi (evil intent), and pointed to Amar Singh, the then top political operative.
Singh, then the influential general secretary for the Samajwadi Party and was close to Amitabh, among other public figures, didn't find it funny, and vow to humiliate SRK at the opportune time. Things came to a head, and Samajwadi workers landed outside SRK’s home.
Suhana, his daughter, was so traumatized by the incident, she began crying. Shah Rukh Khan went to town and expressed his feelings. In an interview with an afternoon tabloid, he stated that he was a Pathan and is very protective of his family.
After Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Chennai Super Kings in the IPL final in 2012, an allegedly drunk SRK engaged in a scuffle with a Mumbai security guard at Wankhede Stadium. The superstar claimed that the guard stopped Suhana joining the celebrations at the ground. However, he then escalated the situation by verbally abusing officials from the Maharashtra Cricket Association, (MCA) in full view of all the television cameras.
Shah Rukh Khan was immediately arrested by a social media influencer for abusive language used in the presence children. Mumbai Police made an FIR against Shah Rukh Khan and the MCA prohibited him from entering the stadium. However, six years later, no evidence was found in the charges against SRK.
Even before the IPL began, SRK was in the crosshairs with the Shiv Sena when he stated that he found it "humiliating," that there was pressure to not bid for Pakistani cricketers at the Kolkata Knight Riders. He said that the Pakistanis were the best T20 cricket players in the world.
Balasheb Thackeray (Shiv Sena's supremo and father of the current Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray) threatened to stop the screening of his recently released film, "My Name is Khan". The Bollywood fraternity jumped on board to defend SRK and the controversy eventually died down.
How can we forget the three times that SRK was detained by US immigration officials at airports in order to be questioned about his Muslim surname?
It took place for the first time at Newark's Liberty International Airport in 2008. Then it happened again in New York City in 2012. Finally, it took place in Los Angeles in 2016. Shah Rukh was able to apologise profusely on each occasion. However, he also tweeted that he was "to be detained every damn time at US immigration really really s*cks" in 2016. Evidently, the US Immigration and Naturalisation Service had a lookout for the celebrity's namesake.
Even his lavish addresses are getting bad press, as if the constant spotlight on him was not enough. SRK's six-storey bungalow, Mannat, overlooking the Arabian Sea, Land's End, Mumbai has been taken to court by activists. They were convicted of violating both heritage and coastal regulations zone rules.
His Alibaug beachfront home, which is the preferred address for Mumbai's wealthy and famous, has been a subject of controversy. It was attached in 2018 by the Income-Tax Department. However, the appeals tribunal vacated the action.
The company that bought the land was penalized Rs 3.09 Crore for violating the Bombay Tenancy Law, which prohibits the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural uses.
It was also a red rag to green activists who claim that it violates the Coastal Regulation Zone provisions which prohibit any construction within 500m of the high tideline.
