Sofia Vergara, a star of 'Modern Family,' was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma at 28. She responded by learning more about the condition.

My doctor noticed a lump in my neck at 28 years of age during a routine visit to the doctor. They did a lot of tests and told finally me I had thyroid cancer," Vergara said during the 'Stand Up To Cancer' telethon. Keep reading for Hollywood News.

Sofia Vergara said: "When you are young, and you hear the word 'Cancer', your mind goes to so much places. But I tried to not panic and decided to get educated. I read every book I could find and learned everything I could. It was a blessing to have it caught early, and to have the support and guidance of my doctors, and my family.

Sofia Vergara believes that she has learned a lot through her health scare.

She stated, "I learned a lot about thyroid cancer, but I also learned that we can all work together in times of crisis."

The actress said that she was lucky to have survived her battle with cancer. It was a relief that the problem was caught before it could spread.

Sofia is still conscious of the danger even though she has been cured from cancer.

She stated, "I have my blood levels checked every three-to six months to ensure that my thyroid levels are healthy. After cancer, I get a little paranoid every time I feel or cough.
