Here is the decoding of Amitabh Bachchan movie. Since his debut in the movie Saat Hindustani, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has appeared in approximately 146 films. He will soon be among those unusual mainstream superstars who have starred in 150 Bollywood movies. Bachchan was part of 46 hit films and about 40 average grosser in his career period of about 40 years, i.e. films where producers broke even and made some small profits.

To put things in perspective, despite having appeared in almost 150 films, Amitabh Bachchan's success rate is 59 percent. A significant thing to remember here is that the iconic actor has had one release every year since his debut, with the exception of 1970, 1987, 1993, 1995, and 1996, which means that he has had a movie release in 34 years of his glorious career's 39 years.

We've always read about Amitabh Bachchan's craze, but a look at the kind of success his films experienced at the peak of his career only goes on to show that he's probably the greatest Bollywood superstar has ever seen. In 1971, Amitabh Bachchan's first hit film was Anand, but the film starred him in the lead along with Rajesh Khanna. Zanjeer (1973), his first collaboration with the iconic writer duo Salim-Javed, was the film that established Amitabh Bachchan as a star in the industry. Ironically, he was not the first choice for the character of Inspector Vijay. Dharmendra, who did not accept the film offer because of personal differences with the director, was first offered the film. It does seem that Bachchan was destined for Zanjeer and that he made Vijay's character his own. Though director Prakash Mehra was doubtful about signing the film with Bachchan, it was writer duo Salim-Javed and actor Pran who persuaded him to take Big B on board, and the rest is history now.

Amitabh Bachchan started to deliver a series of hit movies after Zanjeer, like Abhimaan, Namak Haram, Benaam, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Majboor, to name a few. While Bachchan was known as a star in the above-mentioned films, it was Deewar that took his popularity and success to another level.

Like Zanjeer, the first choice for Deewar wasn't Amitabh Bachchan either. Yash Chopra, the director, wanted Rajesh Khanna to take the lead in the film. However, Salim-Javed successfully convinced the director again to sign Bachchan for the film. He delivered one of the best performances of his career, as Vijay Verma, and the film further enhanced the tag attached to him, i.e. Angry young man.

A series of other successful films were followed by Deewar, such as Chupke Chupke, Sholay, Kabhi Kabhie, Adaalat, Hera Pheri, Amar Akbar Anthony, Trishul, Don and Mukkadar Ka Sikandar. Bachchan had already hit the pinnacle of stardom by the end of the decade (1970-1979).

This iconic actor's craze reached a point where the renowned book publishers, India Book House Pvt. Ltd. came up with a comic series named The Adventures of Amitabh Bachchan, in which the actor starred as a celebrity, who had the power to become the ultimate superhero whenever a major crime was committed in the city. The comic book had a new issue every couple of weeks where, as part of the memento, the first page of each copy used to be personally signed by Big B. For reasons possibly better known to publishers, the magazine was discontinued after a successful two-year run.

The success story of Amitabh Bachchan, which began with Anand in 1971, continued there till Hum, which was released in 1991. Although after Mard's release in 1985, Bachchan slowed down in terms of hits. However, his films still opened with a huge reaction to the ticket window. It was actually the content which did not help the film in the long run. The Bollywood Angry Young Man started his second inning with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan at the Box Office in 1998, after which he began portraying characters closer to his age. Bachchan worked as part of the film ensemble from 1998 to 2018. Although in the second innings of his career his stardom took a back seat, the sheer presence of a superstar in the entire cast used to intensify the enthusiasm of the film.
