Cillian Murphy’s Audition Tape for Batman Breaks the Internet, Actor Reveals He Was ‘So Close’ But C

Several actors have played the legendary role, but one can only image Cillian Murphy, who played Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, leaping from the building in Bat-suit. Several actors have played Batman/Bruce Wayne on the big screen during the last 30 years, including Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck. There were a number of actors who came close to playing the caped crusader, including the Irish actor.

Cillian Murphy was a finalist for the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy in 2003. Even donning the bat-suit to screen-test opposite Amy Adams, the actor conducted an audition for the role. Christian Bale, on the other hand, was cast in the part of Scarecrow, the villain.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cillian said that the part was a tough one to land. When he auditioned for the part, he was in his twenties and wearing a complete Bat-suit.

Cillian Murphy said while talking about the auditions, “I don’t believe I was close to landing that role. The only actor who was right for that part at that time, in my estimation, was Christian Bale, and he absolutely smashed it.”

Peaky Blinders actor further said, “So, for me, it was just an experience, and then it turned into something else. It turned into that character, Scarecrow, and it turned into a working relationship with Chris. So, I think back very, very fondly on that time, but I never, ever, ever considered myself Bruce Wayne material.”
