Barry Jenkins thought he would be able to celebrate Lindo's nod for the Spike Lee war drama on Monday (15Mar21) when the Academy Awards shortlist was announced.

After actor DELROY LINDO was snubbed by Oscar voters for his appearance in DA 5 BLOODS, filmmaker BARRY JENKINS was left speechless.
The Moonlight director was so sure that Lindo would be nominated for an acting award – and win it – that he snapped a picture of himself holding his own Oscar in front of a screenshot of the British film legend in action and saved it to his phone.
When the Academy Awards shortlist was revealed on Monday (15th March'21), Barry Jenkins expected to be able to congratulate Lindo on his nomination for Spike Lee's war drama, but he was surprised to hear that his friend had been overlooked.
“I took this pic eight or so months ago but decided not to tweet it,” Barry Jenkins explained on Twitter as he posted the photo.
“If you had told me that by March 2021 it would be irrelevant I would’ve thought you crazy. An a** outta me (sic)”.
Despite a slew of awards season accolades, Da 5 Bloods, which co-starred the late Chadwick Boseman, was practically ignored by Academy members, receiving only one nomination for Terence Blanchard's Best Original Score. (WNTWT/LOT/MT)
