This is the first of three stories that explores Pradeep's transformation from a lonely person to his soul. He works as a clothes shop salesman in Mumbai. Because he meets a companion, he is no longer alone. He literally won't speak a word if Pradeep goes to the bathroom unattended. What is the reason? Why? Because his partner was a mannequin. This is how this story will unfold. Director Ashwiny Tiwari makes it look real, regardless of whether the love is with a person or a thing.

Second, Sairat's Rinku Rajguru plays the role of Manjari (back in 1980s Bombay). We meet our hero Nandu (Delzad Hiwale), who works at the canteen of the city’s iconic single-screen theatre. They fall in love, but they soon realize that escapism is not the same as love. Both have one thing in common. But is it love? Abhishek Chaubey, director of 'Ishqiya,' sketches 'Ishq again, giving it a new shade.

Saket Chaudhary, who made his debut in the 'Pyaar/Shaadi Ke side effects' series, has now covered a stronger side effect in depth: Infidelity. Tanu (Zoya Hussain), who is trying to track down Manav, Kunal Kapoor's husband, has an affair with Natasha (Palomi). They play out the whole incident, which could have caused their spouses to cheat. They discover the truth about their cheating partners and uncover their secrets. Will they find love? It may not be what you had in mind, but it could be. You can now see it, even though I have successfully misled you.

Ankahi Kahaniya Movie Review: Script Analysis

This is undoubtedly the best story of them all. Piyush Gupta and Shreyas Jain's story explores the loneliness of a lonely man. This is how it's described in one line: "A companionless man seeks solace in the mannequin" Ashwiny Iyer Triwari and his team not only align your thoughts but also feel for these characters. This is the closest Indian industry has come to Joaquin Phoenix’s Her. Never before has the idea of finding love in unexpected places been so well explored.

The second is a Kannada story called "Madhyantara" by Jayant Kaikini, which means interval. This title could not have been more perfect, considering the way that the love story ends at different points in each of its characters lives. Manjari by Rinku Rajguru and Nandu by Delzad Hiwale find love in escapism. Is it possible that they truly love one another or just enjoy the idea of escape from tough realities? Hussain Haidry and Abhishek Chaubey keep the classic Bombay as a supporting character in their screenplay. Avinash Arun Daware's stunning camerawork makes this a beautiful representation of the city. (The last one I remember was Ritesh Batra’s Photograph).

Zeenat Lakhani wrote the last story. Saket Chaudhary has many things to say about infidelity within a relationship in a short time. Avinash Singh's story is full of dialogues, some good, others not so much. However, Eeshit Narain’s cinematography adds the most impact. This story is a wonderful marriage of Zeenat & Saket's dialogue-heavy screenplay and visually pleasing cinematography. Many people give the transition shots that link flashbacks to current events a lot of 'wows.

Ankahi Kahaniya Movie Review: Star Performance

I had mentioned Abhishek Banerjee as the greatest takeaway from 2018's Stree. That fact is still the case. Although Hathoda Tyagi was a huge help to him, Ankahikahaniya gives his wings and allows him to fly towards his destiny. You can see why his acting is so amazing in this scene. Watch how he smiles and cries while interacting with a mannequin in a confrontational sequence. Master performer, a masterful performance! Three 'Scam 1992" celebs are featured in this episode: Jay Uppadhyay (Pranav Seth), Chirag Volhra (Bhushan Bhatt), and the man behind the viral theme Achint Thkker (giving the background music).

Jay and Chirag don't have anything to do with the role of being remembered long-term. Rajeev Pandey's role as Banerjee’s colleague at the shop showcases all the qualities a jealous colleague can have, which helps to create a sweet moment towards end. Extra mention to 'TJ Bhanu’ Parvati Murty, who took no time to strengthen the viewers' connection backed up by solid writing.

Rinku Rajguru is still doing what she loves best and it's hard to stop admiring her. Her natural talent of being natural makes her a relatable character. Delzad Hiwale stands firm in front of an expressive Rinku. Although Delzad's Nandu isn't given many dialogues, his easy-onsight (and heart) helps him stay within the boundaries of dramatic over-the-top.

Zoya Hussain, who was 'love" in Mukkabaaz, is still 'love in this movie. She plays a smart-dumb part and it is a nuisance. I request that cinema-makers help her land more such roles. Kunal Kapoor continues to be cool as ever in this role, despite his age denial. Nikhil Diwedi & Palomi add additional support.

Ankahi Kahaniya Movie Review: Direction, Music

Ashwiny Iyer Twari has a unique way of bringing together the best of both worlds in this story. Despite a 'beyond beliefs' idea, she still manages to include comic reliefs. The stories don't have a proper conclusion, so the title and Ashwiny’s 'ankahi Kahani' are the best. It's a new territory for Abhishek Chaubey, but he still hits the right notes with movies like Udta Punjab and Sonchiriya.

Saket Chaudhary returns after four years (Hindi Medium 2017). He is backed by solid cinematography, screenplay and screenplay which makes the anthology intrigue-holding. The viewing experience is enhanced by the contrast between close-up shots and behaviour taken from over-the shoulder.

Achint Thakkar, Scam 1992's Achint Thakkar seamlessly switches between soothing and mysterious. The background music of the first story is also used to great effect. In the second story, Naren Chandavarkar and Benedict Taylor underplay the BGM in the midst of the classic visual treat. Rishabh Shah conducts the third part of the anthology. There aren't many complaints, just as with the first two.

Ankahi Kahaniya Movie Review - The Last Word

There's always a time when you can let go and reach closure. This moment has three. I would call it a 3/3 story because there was never a dull moment throughout. Although it might challenge your thinking process, it will do so in a way you will have to pay attention to.

Four stars
