As the second wave of the Coronavirus epidemic continues to wreak havoc on the country and wreak havoc on various industries, including the entertainment industry, it appears that theatres in the United States are finally getting back on track. The thriller sequel A Quiet Place Part II, directed by John Krasinki, is a big office smash.
A Quiet Place Part II, from Paramount Pictures, is one of the first large films of the year to be released exclusively in theatres. John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds, Djimon Hounsou, and Cillian Murphy feature in the movie. Krasinki also served as the film's director.
According to Variety, A Quiet Place Part II was supposed to be released in March 2021 before theatres closed, but COVID-19 derailed those plans. Over the Memorial Day Weekend, the film, which cost $61 million to make, brought in $57 million. The film has currently been released in 3,726 theatres. According to the studio, the film will gross $58.5 million in North America and $22 million internationally.
Chris Aronson, the head of distribution at Paramount, said, “We’re happy for the industry. We’re happy for movie theatres. This is a referendum on the future of moviegoing, so there’s a lot to celebrate.”
The release of A Quiet Place Part II coincided with other studios announcing hybrid release plans in the midst of the pandemic. Cruella, a live-action PG-13 Cruella De Vil prequel released on Disney+ and in theatres, followed the same concept.
The Emma Stone starrer took in $21.3 million at the box office, with the film expected to gross $26.4 million over the four-day weekend. In addition, the picture grossed $16.1 million in 29 different countries. Disney, on the other hand, hasn't revealed how much money the picture made on the streaming service.
It's also worth noting that A Quiet Place II, directed by John Krasinki, will be accessible to stream on Paramount+ after 45 days in theatres. Stay tuned to Koimoi for more such updates on box office.
